The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Defence cum Special Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in collaboration with the Johor state government, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), 2017 Malaysia Aidilfitri Open House was not merely a feast for the people, but also a platform to highlight the cultural richness and heritage of the Malay community to foreign tourists and the local community.
The event which was broadcast live through RTM 2, was also enlivened with art and cultural performances by 572 local artistes including Datuk DJ Dave, Ramlah Ram, Noraniza Idris, Permata Choir and Dance groups, ghazal musicians, MINDEF Arts Agency, Kluang Chinese Cultural Artistes Group and Johor Malaysia Tamil Artistes Group.
In conjunction with the event, an MAF Carnival was held for the first time in accordance with the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) organised by the MINDEF and MAF since Thursday.
About 20,000 people visited the carnival, which among others, exhibited 20 assets of the Malaysian Army, the Royal Malaysian Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Navy.
