KANGAR, Sept 14 (Bernama) — Agrobank has disbursed loans totalling RM458.13 million to 48,482 entrepreneurs in Perlis since it changed its name from Bank Pertanian in 2008, its president and chief executive officer, Datuk Wan Mohd. Fadzmi Wan Othman said.
He said for January-August period this year, the bank approved RM18.84 million loans to 1,655 entrepreneurs in Perlis.
The two biggest loans were for a sub-texture padi project amounting to RM9.14 million and a fisheries project for RM2.14 million, he said at a talk themed ‘Agro Agenda in the 11th Malaysia Plan and the Agricultural Sector Banking: Prospects and Opportunities’ organised by Agrobank here today.
He said nationwide, loans disbursed by Agrobank in the agricultural sector amounted to RM4.1 billion which accounted for 21.22 per cent of RM36.7 billion loans approved by the country’s financial system.
Speaking to reporters later, he said Agrobank had appointed 23 agents in five Area Farmers Organisation areas under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority, namely Arau, Kayang, Kangar, Tambun and Simpang Empat.
The agents are authorised to extend Agrobank’s services for customers to deposit and withdraw money, and pay utility and prepaid bills.
At the event, Wan Mohd. Fadzmi presented Agrobank business tithe worth RM15,000 for Pusat Jagaan Anak Yatim dan Miskin Teratak Rahmat Perlis to Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also Perlis Islamic Religious Council president.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also received RM25,000 on behalf of Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra, of which he is the president, and an LCD projector for Sekolah Kebangsaan Putra here.
