PETALING JAYA: Former foreign minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (pic) did not feel that it was necessary for him to walk out of the Dewan Rakyat together with fellow Opposition MPs in protest over the appointment of the Speaker.
“We have already expressed that we do not agree and were unhappy about the appointment process of the Dewan Rakyat speaker today.
“I respect the views and stance of my fellow friends that stood as the Opposition today.
“However, based on my opinion, I felt that it was not necessary for me to leave the Dewan this morning,” he said in a statement on Monday (July 16).
Anifah also congratulated Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof on his appointment as the Dewan Rakyat speaker.
Earlier, Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and Anifah remained in the House even though MPs from Barisan Nasional and PAS staged a walkout to protest the appointment of the Speaker.
Khairy said he chose to abstain from the protest because he chose to respect the swearing in ceremony of Mohamad Ariff as the Speaker for the 14th Parliament.
