KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 – Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be released from prison on Tuesday, said his daughter, Nurul Izzah.
“Yes,” replied Nurul Izzah via the WhatsApp Application when asked to confirm on her father’s release on Tuesday.
Anwar was jailed after the Federal Court rejected his appeal in 2015 on the conviction for sodomising his aide and the five-year imprisonment imposed by the Court of Appeal.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said on Friday that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, had expressed his willingness to grant an immediate pardon to Anwar.
“It is a full pardon, which means that he is not only given a pardon but also freed immediately when obtaining the pardon,” said Dr Mahathir.
