KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 – Terrorist may be planning attacks in and around Kuala Lumpur, an alert posted by Australian government in ‘smarttraveller.gov.au’ website.

In the website it’s stated that attacks could be indiscriminate and may target Western interests or locations frequented by Westerners.

“You should be particularly vigilant at this time. The level of advice has not changed.

“We continue to advise Australians to reconsider the need to travel to the coastal region of eastern Sabah and to exercise normal security precautions in Malaysia overall,” stated in the website.

The travel alert urged them to avoid all travel to the coastal resorts of eastern Sabah , including islands, dive sites and associated tourist facilities due to the high threat of kidnapping.

KL police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa, in a response to the alert told TheMalaysianInsider(TMI) news portal, patrols in the city have been stepped up with military assistance.

He also informed TMI that the security teams at hotels, shopping centres and tourist attractions have been briefed on the terror alert. In addition, he also urged the public to take extra precautions and alert the police of anything suspicious.
