MELAKA, Feb 23 – Internet users should be prudent in using social media to foster better nation development says Deputy Multimedia and Communications Minister Dato Jailani Johari.
In his speech during the ‘Social Media Forum’ opening here in UITM, Melaka he emphasised that social media is the catalyst in developing the nation’s education, social interaction and economy development.
“We constantly continue boosting awareness to remind the people that surfing the internet is for obtaining information and at the same time we must be cautious in using it.
“Self-discipline is vital and it should start at home. Parents should discipline their children while teachers should monitor their students,” told the media.
Jailani informed that the ministry planned to study the need to register all online news portals to check the dissemination of false and invalid information via internet.
To date, he said no act had been created concerning the need to register online portals in the country.
To uphold the spirit of MSC Bill of Guarantee and Section 3 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998, our government still allows the Internet freedom for our Netizens
compared to countries like China and Singapore which have limited Internet freedom, added Jalani.
