Bomb Threat Puts Kerala Airport On Alert


KOCHI, Oct 24 (Bernama) — A bomb threat or a possible suicide attack on Air India flights has sparked a security alert at Kochi International Airport in south western Kerala state.

Airport director A K C Nair told Press Trust of India (PTI) the airport received information from Kolkata there is possible threat to the AI flight serving the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route on Friday night and Mumbai-Kochi route on Oct 25.

A high-level meeting was convened early Friday by Central Industrial Security Force Deputy Inspector General Anand Mohan who arrived from Chennai to review the security situation at the airport.


Airport sources said the director of Airports Authority of India, Kolkata received an anonymous call on Thursday night warning that AI flights on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai and Mumbai-Kochi routes will be “sabotaged”.

The information was passed to the police and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.

A Bomb Detection and Disposal squad, a Quick Response team, Central Industrial Security Force and police have been deployed at the airport to beef up security.
