British Tourists Found Dead In Thailand’s Koh Tao Island

BANGKOK, Sept 15 (Bernama) — Two British tourists were found dead on Koh Tao island on Monday morning, Xinhua news agency reported.

The bodies of a female and male were found stripped on Sai Ree Beach on the Surat Thani island popular for its full-moon parties and scuba diving.

Police believe that the woman, 23, was raped and the 24-year-old man lying naked about four metres away from her was killed by a blow to his head.

Police found a blood-covered hoe some 50 metres from the victims.

Local media reported the two were most likely to have been killed between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. local time.

Residents told police there had been a beach party for about 50 people consisting of mostly foreigners on Sunday night that continued until early morning.

Police and local villagers are hunting for suspects by monitoring all boats leaving the island.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the island.

The head of Surat Thani office of Tourism Authority of Thailand said the case could seriously affect the country’s tourism sector.
