Cambodia, Vietnam Sign Defence Cooperation Pact

HO CHI MINH CITY, March 9 (Bernama) — Vietnam and Cambodia have signed an agreement to cooperate in the defence sector, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Tia Banh recently discussed defence and security and reviewed results of bilateral cooperation at a meeting here.

Thanh thanked the Cambodian government and Defence Ministry for their assistance particularly in searching and gathering remains of Vietnamese soldiers who were killed in Cambodia during the war.

He affirmed the Vietnam People’s Army’s willingness to reinforce solidarity and to increase support for the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in Cambodia’s national development process.

Banh said the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces pledged to do their best to maintain and boost bilateral relationship with the Vietnamese army.

Both sides noted increased cooperation in personnel training, border protection and sea joint patrols had facilitated economic development in border areas.

The two ministers agreed to continue enhancing exchange of delegations, education and training, and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese soldiers.
