KOTA BAHARU, June 10 (Bernama) — DAP should hear the explanation from PAS over the latter’s motion to cut ties before hastily asking the Selangor state executive councillors from PAS to resign from their posts.
PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said DAP should not have reacted that way without understanding the motion tabled by the party’s Dewan Ulama at its recent annual muktamar (assembly), for PAS to sever ties with DAP.
He said this was because the PAS Ulama Syura (Consultative) Council had not made any decision yet on whether to sever ties with DAP.
“It is their problem (DAP’s for taking seriously the motion to cut ties), not our problem.
“They should understand that the decision (to sever ties) is not final and only a proposal. In fact, the Ulama Syura Council have not met yet (to decide on the matter),” he told reporters after opening the Islamic Festival, here, Wednesday.
Mohd Amar expressed regret over DAP’s reaction, saying: “The problem now is Lim Guan Eng (DAP secretary-general) who had jumped the gun instead of listening to our explanation first.”
The DAP leadership had suggesed that the PAS assemblymen resign from their posts as Selangor state executive councillors.
This followed the decision of the PAS ulama faction to unanimously approved the emergency motion tabled at the 61st PAS Annual Muktamar without debate, for the Islamist party to sever its ties with DAP.
However, PAS wants to continue with its political cooperation in the opposition pact, which also includes Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
