‘Datuk’ among 29 gang members charged

KAJANG: A group of 29 men, including a “Datuk”, believed to be members of Gang 360 Devan, were charged at the Sessions Court here Monday.

The group were charged with taking part in organised crime by being part of the gang.

The alleged offence occurred between Jan 1 and Feb 11, at MV Empayer Sdn Bhd offices on Japan Perniagaan Masria 1, Pusat Perniagaan Masria, Batu 9, Cheras.

The offence under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, for offences related to organised crime, is punishable by up to 20 years’ in prison.

 All the accused stated that they understood the charges, which were read in Tamil, though no plea was recorded.

DPP Mohammad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam applied for the case to be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court, and urged that no bail be allowed as the offence was un-bailable.

Magistrate Noridah Adam denied bail and fixed April 18 for next mention, to decide if the case should be transferred up.

The large number of accused spilled out of the dock, with all required to stand through the hearing.

The public gallery was full of family members looking to meet the accused, who had been held in custody for about a month after being  arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) in February.

More than a dozen police men in uniform were on standby during the hearing, with several plain clothes officers also present.
