KUALA LUMPUR,,The Election Commission (EC) said today that voting for GE14 has ended at 5pm, and that there was no need for a time extension.
News portal Malaysiakini quoted EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah as telling RTM1 in an interview that the 5pm closing time has been gazetted, and that votes cast past that time can be challenged in court.
“We will close at 5pm for those not in the voting room,” Mohd Hashim reportedly said.
He said that this was the reason why the EC had told Malaysians to come out as early as possible today to vote.
Earlier this afternoon, he acknowledged there were numerous complaints of lengthy waits — some lasting nearly five hours — to cast their ballots.
