Former Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan has dismissed the allegations that Prime Minister Najib Razak had paid RM9.5 million to lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah using 1MDB-linked funds as reported by Sarawak Report.
At a press conference held in Petaling Jaya, Musa said based on a report by Malaysiakini on Aug 8, 2015 stated that the account alleged held by Najib was closed in August 2013.
“The alleged payment was supposedly made in February 2014,” added Musa.
Musa also questioned “How does one pay a lawyer when their accounts are closed? If one appoints a lawyer they would have to pay a client fee and there will be receipts”.
Musa claimed the reports played by certain media was merely a slander to play political games.
The report on the alleged payment to Shafee early this month in Sarawak Report entitled ‘Najib Paid Anwar’s Prosecutor RM9.5million from 1MDB Slush Fund. Why?’
Following the report, the opposition has been demanding a response from both Najib and Shafee.
The article in Sarawak Report also quoted that a deputy head of police had a secret meeting with both Najib and Shafee in 2006.
In response to this, Musa wanted to know the identity of the deputy head of police.
“I was the IGP at that time. If there is a deputy head of police who met Najib secretly, who is it?”
Musa urged the police to investigate those spreading these false allegations.
“I hope the police would probe those spreading false information under section 182 of the Penal Code.”
When asked whether he will lodge a police report, Musa replied “I have no locus standi in this matter,” who also stated that a police report filed by M Shanmugham, who is a PKR Youth chief in Negeri Sembilan.
Meanwhile, when asked his position in Monspace, Musa said there is an impending civil suit and will not be in the position to answer any questions but also confirmed that he is a chairman of Monspace based in US.
