Fire breaks out in Malaysia police headquarters

The fire was reported to have broken out at the 10th storey of the Malaysian police headquarters’ Tower 2. Malaysian national police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said on his Twitter account that the fire was extinguished with no reported casualties, and that the cause was being investigated.

He added that the section of the Crime Investigation Unit, which is located on the 10th floor, was safe, and that only old and unimportant documents were affected by the fire. He also urged the public to stop spreading rumours about the fire.

The Royal Malaysia Police is part of the Special Task Force investigating the allegations of misappropriation of funds from state-owned development company 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Both Najib and 1MDB have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
