MELAKA, Aug 2 (Bernama) — The setting up of Bumiputera Economic Research Institute and the launch of One-Stop Information Centre and Business Financing Programme, Bumiputera Economic Patriotism Programme and One Family One Firm Programme aim to boost the economic position of the Malay entrepreneurs.
Federation of Malay Economic Bodies (Gabem) Chairman, Tan Sri Dr Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik, said the four programmes had been approved by the Government’s Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) and would start this month.
He said the programmes, which also aimed to ensure Bumiputera entrepreneurs adopted a paradigm shift in the global business practice, would be implemented with the cooperation of various agencies, public universities and institutes of higher learning and the private sector nationwide.
“The programmes are in line with Gabem’s fight to change the Bumiputera entrepreneurs’ perception, attitudes, personal characters to turn them into strong and sustainable businessmen,” he said.
Abdul Rahim said this to reporters at Gabem’s Hari Raya Open House here today.
He said the Bumiputera Economic Research Institute would act as research body on matters regarding the Malay community and a collection centre on information regarding the economic position of the Malay entrepreneurs.
“The institute will cooperative with various public universities, including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak,” he said.
