KUALA LUMPUR: PAS will not join forces with Umno, claims its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
“We will work with all in matters that bring good for the rakyat.
“We will not be joining Umno,” he told reporters at the Parliment lobby on Tuesday (July 17).
On Monday (July 16), PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said that Opposition lawmakers from PAS were not bound to agree with Barisan Nasional, which forms the largest Opposition bloc in Parliament.
Barisan has 54 seats, of which Umno has the largest number of lawmakers with 51, followed by MIC with two and MCA with one.
However, it was reported on July 13 that PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan is prepared to cooperate with Umno on fielding a single candidate from either party for the Sungai Kandis by-election on Aug 4.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also said that his party was ready to talk with PAS on the possibility of arranging a straight fight with Pakatan Harapan for the seat.
