ALOR SETAR, Oct 4 (Bernama) — All schools in Peninsular Malaysia except Kelantan have been ordered to close for two days starting Monday due to the worsening haze.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said for Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak the ministry would be monitoring the haze hourly before deciding on what to do.
Speaking at a press conference in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Ampang here Sunday, he said, for now the PT3, SPM, STPM and STAM examinations would take place as per schedule.
“However, these examinations will be postponed if the haze reaches emergency levels,” Mahdzir said.
The ministry, the state education department and schools are required to take steps to supply masks to students sitting for examinations in their respective schools, he said.
According to the directive, teachers, staff and school employees were also not required to come to school, Mahdzir said.
School security guards, however, should be at the premises to maintain security.
He also said there was no need for replacement of school days closed due to the haze.
