KUALA LUMPUR:, Feb 29 – Following his father’s advise to protect Umno, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he will never leave the ruling party no matter what happens.
Najib told this when reciting a poem titled “Coretan Empat Dekad”, touched on Umno and his political career, including the advice given to him by his late father, former Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.
“I have never left Umno. My Father reminded me to take care of the party. To me, there’s nothing more important than serving the people,” Najib told the media during a book launch at Royale Chulan Hotel here today.
Earlier today, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad quits Umno as a sign of protest against Najib’s leadership.
Mahathir has been on a year-long campaign to oust Najib, criticising his leadership as well as his alleged involvement with 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion scandal.
Najib when reciting the poem further said, he had never tried to bring anyone down, in fact, he always remember all the advise given to him by former leaders.
The Pekan MP recalled his memory when he was Umno deputy president and deputy prime minister, where he had stayed loyal to his leader at that time, former Premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“In completing this struggle, all of the duties, trust given and the responsibilities seemed challenging and its getting heavier.
“Once the sails have been set, once the anchor has been raised, the captain and his crew would never change course,” he added.
Najib’s adviser Dr Khairil Annas Jusoh wrote the book titled “Najib Berjiwa Besar: Empat Dekad Menongkah Arus Kepimpinan dan Politik (1976-kini).
