Immigration detains 24 illegal immigrants in Penang

Penang Immigration Department has rounded up 24 illegal immigrants during raid at three locations in the state early today.

GEORGE TOWN, 6 Jul : Penang Immigration Department has rounded up 24 illegal immigrants during raid at three locations in the state early today.

The nationwide crackdown was launched following the end of the registration process for the Enforcement Card (E-card) which ended on June 30.

The areas raided were Lintang Kampung Jawa, Bayan Lepas, Jalan Perda Selatan, Bukit Mertajam, and Jalan Pantai, Butterworth.

Out of the 56 people inspected, 24 failed to produce the E-card.

“18 of them are from Bangladesh, three from Myanmar and three from Indonesian.” a source said.

They were detain under Section 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immi­gration Act 159/63 for unlawful entry or presence in Malaysia.
