KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) — The move to invite Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Parliament showed that the opposition Members of Parliament have run out of respectable voices among themselves, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
The Umno Supreme Council member said such a move also showed that the opposition was now relying on the former prime minister as their de facto leader.
“(DAP adviser) Lim Kit Siang has no role, and (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng has began writing a will to have Penang DAP chairman, Chow Kon Yeow, to replace him should he be found guilty (in his corruption case) soon.
“So, none of the opposition leaders can be that respectable voice,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here today.
He said this in response to Dr Mahathir’s presence at the Parliament to attend the special meeting on Members of Parliament’s Special Rights and Immunity today.
Meanwhile, Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa described Dr Mahathir’s presence at the Parliament today as an effort to attract public attention.
“His presence is insignificant. It’s like having an antique car at the F1 Championship, nice to see but not suitable to be used in the race,” he said.
