Jamal stages coffin and hearse protest outside state secretariat

SHAH ALAM: Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has staged another protest at the state secretariat building here, this time with 16 hearses and coffins.

Dressed like a gravedigger in a white t-shirt and cargo pants with a white towel tied around his head, Jamal held a hoe in his hands and demanded Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali explain the alleged misappropriation of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor funds.

Earlier, Jamal was seen driving the leading hearse. He arrived at the entrance at about 11am Tuesday with the others tailing him.

He then brought out a coffin from the hearse, with help from his supporters, and said, ”This is meant for Azmin”.

The crowd slowly built up and headed to the entrance of the building, which had been closed and chained at 10.20am.

While addressing the crowd, Jamal claimed that assemblymen and constituency coordinators in Kepong, Wangsa Maju, Lembah Pantai, Jeram and Gombak had misused funds allocated for the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (Senior Citizens’ Friendly Scheme) under the foundation.

The scheme was set up to help Selangor senior citizens aged 60 and above with funeral expenses and other needs.

A small scuffle then broke out when a group of youth claiming to be concerned Selangor residents shouted, ”Who is the robber?”

One of them went on to say that Malaysians were sick of Jamal’s behaviour before the group started chanting “balik” (go back) to Jamal and his supporters.

Policemen who were keeping watch on scene then intervened and told the two groups to disperse.

Jamal and his supporters moved further away from the entrance to address the crowd before they slowly dispersed.
