Kit Siang to address issue of contesting in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang (pic) will set to declare which seat he will contest in the upcoming GE14 on Saturday.

The Gelang Patah parliamentarian was called on to contest the Alor Setar parliament seat by grassroots members of the Kedah DAP and some supporters.

He said that the question of whether he would take up the offer will only be announced on Saturday morning at a press conference in Gelang Patah, Johor.

Over the past week, several posters and a large banner questioning the whereabouts of Lim have appeared in front of the party’s service centre in Taman Nusa Perintis in Gelang Petah.

A banner with the wording “Where is Uncle Lim Kit Siang? Gelang Patah misses you” was hung between two trees while a “missing” poster with his face on it was found at a bus stop.

Lim has already served in several parliamentary seats in a number of states.

This includes stints as Kota Melaka MP in Malacca; Petaling MP in Selangor; Tanjong MP in Penang, Ipoh Timur in Perak as well as his current post.

He was in Kedah for two days and met supporters in Kulim and Alor Setar.

If Kit Siang decides to take up the offer then he would have to discuss terms with Gooi Hsiao Leung, the current MP from PKR, a Pakatan Harapan coalition member who is tipped to defend his seat in the coming election.

Hsiao Leung declined to comment as he said he was not present at the event.
