Malaysia Govt to appoint Chief Data Scientist

PUTRAJAYA: A Chief Data Scientist to the Government will be appointed soon to spearhead Malaysia’s development in the data-driven economy.

The person would be named once the Cabinet endorsed the appointment, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the closing of the 26th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council meeting here.

Najib also announced the setting up of the Asian Institute of Data Science in collaboration with leading global universities such as Carnegie Mellon.

He had also instructed government scholarship providers to shift university scholarships from traditional disciplines towards high demand skills such as data sciences.
