PUTRAJAYA, May 11 (Bernama) — Malaysia, as the ASEAN chairman, has succeeded in showing its leadership during the 26th ASEAN Summit Meeting last month to the extent of drawing praise from the leaders present, said prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said the excellent organisation of the Summit Meeting on April 26 and 27 had succeeded in highlighting the concept towards creating an ASEAN Community.
“We have done the best and I was made to understand all the ASEAN leaders felt comfortable and satisfied at the proceedings of the 26th Summit Meeting,” he said when addressing the monthly staff gathering of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM), in Putrajaya, Monday.
In his speech, Najib expressed his appreciation to the staff of JPM, particularly from the protocol division, who had worked hard as host for the meeting.
The 26th ASEAN Summit which concluded on April 27 in Langkawi adopted three documents including the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on People-Oriented, People-Centred ASEAN.
The other two documents were the Langkawi Declaration on the Global Movement of Moderates and the Declaration on Institutionalising the Resilience of ASEAN and its Communities and Peoples to Disasters and Climate Change.
