Malaysian introduces ‘Unity Hostel’ brand in Siem Reap

To learn more about his idea of having a hostel in Siem Reap, Asia News Today had the privilege to learn his idea of starting a business that amalgamate with tourism boom in that country.

According to Suresh Balasekaran, the idea of starting the Unity Hostel with his partners came way back in 2016.

“We saw an opportunity to capitalise on the growing number of travellers, hence, took our time in finding the most suitable location (Siem Reap Town) and only started renovating the property in January 2019.

“We started operating in April 2019 after a four month renovation period.

“After doing our business feasibility for 2 years, we understood the tourism industry in Cambodia is picking up.” shared Balasekaran.

Balasekaran told ANT that ‘large number of young travellers from the Asian region has flocked to get a glimpse of the ancient Angkor Wat.’ which paved for an ideal start-up in hostel business.

In order to facilitate the increasing number of tourist to Siem Reap, Balasekaran’s team saw an opportunity to provide clean, safe and reliable accommodation.

Unity Hostel comes up with an eclectic decoration achieving a balanced and inclusive environment to make guests feel right at home, says Suresh.

Seeing a comfortable success from Siem Reap venture, Unity Hostel plans to expand to other tourist states within Cambodia, like Battambang, Kampot or even Sihanoukville.

In future, they planned to expand the brand to other developing South East Asian Countries like Myanmar, Laos or even Vietnam.

Room types /Pricing.

Unity Hostel has 11 ROOMS; Nine rooms are Private Rooms ranging from Small, Medium and Large sized rooms all come with en-suite bathrooms, hot water showers and air-conditioning. All bathrooms are also equipped with free soap and shampoo via built in dispensers.

Two small rooms economically sized with a single sized bunk bed to fit a solo or a couple traveller who are in need of a cheap and comfortable room to place their belongings and a comfortable place to sleep.

Two medium spacious rooms accommodate two couples or four solo travellers in a room and three large rooms suitable for family package.

They also allocated two rooms designed as dorms.

1 PRIVATE POD DORM ROOM – six queen sized bunk pods, first of its kind in Cambodia, a queen sized private pod which fits 2 pax per bed (room can fit up to 12 pax).

This room is suitable for a large group travelling together especially couples who can have a level of privacy while still being within a group.

Each bed comes with 2 reading lights and a privacy curtain. This room is fully air-conditioned and also equipped with fans. There are 2 ensuite private bathrooms.

1 Mixed Dorm room – Eight single sized bunk beds.

This is a regular mixed dorm which is luxuriously spaced to allow solo travellers who don’t mind sleeping in a shared room.
