Mobile banking to reach a billion users

According to the latest figures from Juniper Research by the end of this year, almost 20% of the world’s adult population will have reached for their handset for financial reasons.

What’s more, by decade’s end, the number is expected to have doubled to 2 billion. In a new white paper, the firm also forecasts that by the end of 2016, 50% of people around the world with a bank account will be accessing it online.

Juniper also said that by the end of this year, 19% of consumers will have used a PC mobile device to settle a household bill.

However, lead analyst Nitin Bhas notes that while consumers are increasingly becoming multichannel – i.e., we want to move from one device or portal to the next seamlessly – consumers in Europe and the US still place a higher value on a face-to-face meeting rather than talking to an agent at a call centre when it comes to services like banking. — AFP Relaxnews
