Najib Arrives In Milan To Further Boost Malaysia-Italy Ties

MILAN, Oct 2 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here Friday for a three-day working visit to Italy to further boost bilateral ties.

Najib and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived at the Linate Airport here at 8.30am local time (2.30 pm GMT) and were greeted by Malaysian Ambassador to Italy Datuk Abdul Samad Othman.

Najib flew to Milan after attending the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The prime minister will be accompanied by Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz during this visit.

Last year, Najib had received an official invitation from Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to attend this year’s edition of the Expo Milano – the world’s largest exposition which held every four years.

Malaysia is among the 147 countries participating in the six-month expo which ends on Oct 30.

On Saturday morning (local time), Najib will attend Expo Milan Malaysia Day 2015 reception organised by the organizers of the expo.

Najib will also visit the Italian pavilion at the expo.

At night, the prime minister will launch the “Malaysia Food Festival” at the Malaysian pavilion at the expo.

Rosmah will also be launching a fashion show by 18 Malaysian designers at the expo, which is expected to be a platform to showcase the work of local fashion designers at the world’s famous fashion city.

Malaysia-Italy bilateral trade last year reached about RM9 billion covering sectors such as security, general trading, chemicals, machinery, electronics and electrical and hardware.

Malaysia imports a lot of high-value goods from Italy, including helicopters.

Italy is Malaysia’s fifth largest trading partner in Europe.
