KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched two art exhibitions to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians.

The exhibitions were launched at the National Art Gallery here on Friday.

In his speech, Najib said he was proud of the unity and harmony displayed by the people in this country.

“This can be seen from the Negaraku exhibition which shows the determination of the people of Malaysia to make national art a success and cultivate a love for the country,” he added.

The art initiative comprises the Seni Negaraku and Reka Negaraku exhibitions as well as an art competition.

The Seni Negaraku exhibition showcases 88 paintings from 72 leading artists including Abdul Latin Mohidin, Syed Ahmad Jamal, Ibrahim Hussein, Joseph Tan, Fatimah Chik and Anthony Lau.

The Reka Negaraku exhibits 36 artefacts and 53 prints comprising everyday items such as matchboxes and medicine labels as well as pop cultural memorabilia such as movie posters and magazines.

Admission to the exhibitions, which will be held until Sept 31, is free.

Najib also gave away the prizes for the Seni Negaraku art competition to nine winners.
