Najib Says Has Held On To Three Principles In His 40 Years In Politics
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he has held on to three principles in his 40 years in politics, and that he would not destroy UMNO, which was built by his late father and Malaysia’s second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.

The Prime Minister said although he was characterised as being patient by his political aides, he admitted that there was a limit to the patience against those who attempted to discredit his leadership.

“Yes, I have a lot of forbearance, I agree. But patience has a limit as well. Do not assume that if I am quiet, you can do what you like, and if it goes over the limit, I will act, but it must be based on facts and the best interests of the government,” he said during a “Majlis Kesyukaran” ceremony in conjunction with his 40th anniversary in politics, here last night.

He said throughout his political career, he held on to three principles, the first being, to have more friends than foes.

“In this hall, for instance, the members of the N87 Friends Club who are present here, who have always been with me through the good times, and diffcult times as well” he said.

The ceremony was organised by the N87 Friends Club comprising former UMNO Youth division chiefs during Najib’s tenure as the party’s Youth wing chief.

Najib said he also held on to the principle of not attempting to unseat anybody in politics.

“My record is in any contest, I will only contest if it (the seat) is vacant. With this (principle), I will never unseat anyone,” he said.

He said the third principle was that he never ever bought any votes in the party.

“It was my late father who built UMNO, and I will not be the son who destroys this party,” he said.

Najib also said there was no profession that could rival that of a politician in the quest to help the people and change the future of the country.

Earlier at the ceremony, over 2,000 guests celebrated Najib’s milestone, reciting the Tahlil and Surah Yassin, along with the Maghrib and Isha prayers.

The ceremony was followed by dinner and speeches by Club N87 chairman Datuk Seri Suleiman Mohamed and former Umno Youth chief Datuk Khalid Yunus, who narrated their experiences with Najib.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Wanita UMNO chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil,UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and UMNO Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan said he truly admired Najib’s calmness and forbearance.

He said despite the resistance Najib faced, he always remained calm, and would solve each problem with moderation.

“It is very difficult for him (Najib) to get angry, and if there is any problems being faced (by us), he will advise us,” he said.

Tengku Adnan also prayed for the long life of Najib, and that he continues to govern the country as best as possible.

In addition to that, UMNO information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Najib’s honesty, sincerity and patience was highly respected by the people, and his colleagues alike.

“He is a person who is patient, and will not rush to make a decision while faced with an issue,” he said.
