PATTANI, Oct 3 (Bernama) — Once again, the calm and peace in southern Thailand was shattered by violence.
A bomb explosion took the life of a police assistant chief this morning while a member of the public was gunned down last night.
About 7.50am today, Nong Chik police assistant head-cum-traffic police chief Inspector Sanit Suktae was killed in a blast caused by a 15kg homemade bomb.
Sanit, 43, whose head and body were riddled with bomb shrapnel, was sent to the Nong Chik Hospital.
When his condition worsened, he was transferred to the Pattani Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
Pattani police chief, Pol Col Manit Yimyeam said the incident occurred in front of a school at Taladnad Bankhao in Tokjong sub-district, Nong Chik.
He told Bernama that in the incident, Sanit was on duty with two other policemen in front of the school when a bomb buried at the road-shoulder was triggered, with the use of a walkie-talkie.
Meanwhile, a member of the public was gunned down in front of his house last night in Kampung Pado, Yarang, Pattani.
Adul Awae, 39, sustained a gunshot wound in the head in the 10.50pm incident.
