MANILA, Oct 1 (Bernama) — Two soldiers and a civilian were shot dead by members of leftist rebel group New People’s Army (NPA) in northern Philippines’ province of Quezon, Xinhua news agency reported.
The soldiers and their female companion were gunned down at around 7:45 p.m. local time on Tuesday by a group of men who later identified themselves as NPA members.
Rhoderick Parayno, commander of the Philippine Army’s 201st Brigade, said the three were attending a friend’s birthday party in barangay San Vicente in Gumaca city when they were killed.
“The soldiers were wearing civilian clothes and were unarmed. The victims were all shot at close range,” he said.
The woman tried to escape by running but was chased by the rebels.
The NPA is an armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines and has more than 4,000 members.
