Ti: Why is DAP giving up its right to Perak MB post?

PETALING JAYA,.  Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker has questioned why DAP was quick to surrender its right to claim the position of Perak Mentri Besar.

The MCA publicity spokesman questioned why a political party that aspired for racial equality and a Malaysian Malaysia give up its right to the post.

“Why is DAP giving up their right to the MB’s post if they have the people’s mandate and have obtained majority support in line with the democratic process?

“Unlike the MCA, which is a Chinese-based Barisan Nasional component party, the DAP is supposedly a multi-racial party which has a right to hold the Perak Mentri Besar position in the event that they obtain the rakyat’s mandate,” Ti said in a statement on Tuesday (April 17).

DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang said that should Pakatan Harapan win Perak in GE14, the state mentri besar will not come from DAP.

The speculation was fuelled by the announcement of Dr Abdul Aziz Bari as the DAP’s candidate for the Tebing Tinggi state seat.

However, DAP’s Ong Boon Piow, who is the incumbent Tebing Tinggi assemblyman, apologised Sunday (April 15) after The Star reported that the announcement was not sanctioned by the party leadership.

Ong said he had written an apology after receiving a show cause letter from the party.

“I replied with an apology this (Sunday) morning. I will cooperate with the party in its investigation.

“I only wanted to introduce Abdul Aziz to the public and hoped that they will work with him. I have no intention of overstepping the party’s right to make the announcement,” he said.

Ong was responding to a statement by DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke that Ong’s announcement had not received the permission or mandate from party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
