KUANTAN, 9 July : The controversy surrounding DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) might be solved if the Registrar of Societies (RoS) declares the party’s election null and void, and orders it to be deregistered.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Samsudin said such move would allow DAP to form a new party by only allowing those who are with them to be part of the newly-formed political party and eliminate those who are against them.
“DAP now has two options, which is to hold a second re-election for its CEC or de-register to allow a new DAP to be formed. The second option will allow the party to pick and choose their members.
“In fact, this is nothing new as Dr Mahathir (former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) had Umno deregistered in 1988.
“When DAP forms a new party, they can approve those whom the want to recruit as members and reject the rest,” he said in a jest today.
Sharkar said DAP have to be a “gentleman” and transparent in their move so that the party will not be described as merely trying to manipulate by helping certain individuals to win.
In 2013, RoS had ordered a re-election DAP’s CEC after it found irregularities and manipulation of votes in its initial election in December 2012.
