KOTA BHARU, March 12 (Bernama) – UMNO is more interested in giving the best service to the people of Kelantan and does not make politics its priority.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the focus was to change the perception of Kelantanese towards UMNO in the 14th general election (GE14).
“UMNO hopes to takeover Kelantan but we do not want to seize it as we are more interested in serving the people, this is a priority.
“We will show that UMNO is responsible, sensitive of the people’s wellbeing and ready to serve and hope the people will value the sincerity,” he told a press conference before joining the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in Pengkalan Chepa today.
Also present were Kelantan UMNO liaison chief, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Minister of International Trade and Industry) and Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (Minister of Higher Education).
Commenting on Kelantan UMNO’s preparation for GE14, Najib said the party machinery has been mobilised to capture the hearts of voters in the state.
“We know it is not easy for Kelantan UMNO. As such, we must work hard and hope not to see negative politics but rather welfare politics.
“Finally, only the voters can pick the democracy of their choice.” Asked about cooperation between UMNO and PAS in Kelantan, he said in politics, anything could happen and any possibility should be considered.
“(But) So far, we are all doing our own work,” added Najib.
Najib reiterated although Kelantan is not under Barisan Nasional (BN) rule, the federal government continues to develop the state just like other states.
“We do not marginalise nor deny the rights of Kelantan although some people accused the federal government is not sincere in developing the state, ” he said.
He then joined a one hour dialogue with school and university students in Kelantan before returning to Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
TN50, engineered by Najib, is a futuristic policy to chart the country’s direction for 30 years after 2020.
