SHAH ALAM, May 20 (Bernama) — The entry of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) in the opposition has been received with uneasy feelings in the pact, says Keadilan Youth Movement (AMK) chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
However, he said, political changes called for many compromises and they needed to accept PPBM led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“If in the past we have told Dr Mahathir that no leaders should have full power, now we have the opportunity to show him that complicated negotiations with various principles should take place before we could take a joint decision,” he said in his policy speech at the 12th AMK National Congress here today.
In March, Pakatan Harapan comprising DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara officially accepted PPBM into the pact.
In this regard, Nik Nazmi in his speech also proposed PKR defacto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the candidate for prime minister if the opposition wins the coming general election.
“Without any doubts, AMK wants to propose to the party and Pakatan Harapan that we are nominating Anwar as the candidate for prime minister in the coming general election,” he said before 100 delegates present at the congress.
The opposition pact has not named any candidate as prime minister if they win the coming general election despite demands being made by various quarters.
