WhatsApp chats just got a little bit more transparent. The Facebook subsidiary has announced that messages forwarded by other users are now visibly labelled as such.
By highlighting messages that have been forwarded, WhatsApp wants to make it easier for users to tell if a message was written by the person sending it or if it originally came from someone else.
To use the feature, you’ll have to download and install the latest WhatsApp version from Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
The update comes as the messenger service comes under fire over its role in facilitating the rapid spread – by forwarding – of false reports of child abductions in India, which reportedly led to several mob lynchings. — dpa
