PETALING JAYA: The wreckage of the Hawk 108 fighter jet, which crashed half and hour after taking off on Thursday, was found near Kampung Yak Yah in Terengganu Friday morning.
Search and rescue team personnel, which included officers from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), were sent to the scene and confirmed the discovery of the wreckage at 10.27am.
In a statement, RMAF said a safety perimeter around the area has been set up to aid with investigations.
“RMAF is currently extracting the wreckage,” a spokesman said.
An investigation team has now started probing the cause of the crash.
The jet took off from the RMAF base in Kuantan at 11am on Thursday and disappeared from radar half and hour later.
The bodies of the pilots were found 53km north of the airbase at 2.30pm.

Mej Hasri Zahari, 31, was buried at the Felda Lui Muda Muslim Cemetery in Jempol, Negri Sembilan, and leaves behind a wife and a child.
