ALOR STAR,. Barisan Nasional leaders should accept those chosen as candidates for the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) and not try to sabotage the party.
State Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai said today this was among the things stressed by BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi when he met with state party leaders last night.
He said Zahid said all BN leaders and members should continue working sincerely for the people and the country.
“We in Gerakan have taken this message to heart as we understand that the candidates would be chosen according to the needs of BN, so as to ensure that the welfare of the people is taken care of.
“As a component party of BN, we have identified the appropriate qualified candidates,” he said a briefing on the state BN’s preparations for GE14 attended by Zahid and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
Zahid, who is deputy prime minister, is in Kedah for a two-day working visit.
Today, he will launch Ekspo Muafakat Kedah at the Darul Aman stadium. He will then attend the Kedah police headquarters management meeting before leaving for Kuantan.
Meanwhile, Kedah BN executive secretary Datuk Ariffin Man said Zahid was satisfied with the state’s preparations.
“He has given us a shot in the arm in terms of spirit. In fact, he is confident that we will be able to defend the state.
“However, he still wants us to be even more prepared and wants us to work out every single detail so that when the election comes, we each know what we need to do so there is no overlapping of duties,” he said.
