2023 Ramadan, Aidilfitri bazaars record RM2.5 bil in sales
Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur top in terms of performance by state
PUTRAJAYA – The sales value of this year’s Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars increased by 5.9% to RM2.5 billion from RM2.4 billion in 2022, according to the 2023 Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaar statistics released by the Statistics Department (DoSM) today.
In a statement today, DoSM said that in terms of performance by state, Selangor, Johor, and Kuala Lumpur contributed 50% of the total sales value this year. According to the report, Selangor had the highest sales value for the Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars, followed by Johor at RM411 million and Kuala Lumpur at RM284.2 million.
At the district level, Johor Baru recorded the highest sales value with RM207.6 million, followed by Petaling with RM204.5 million and Klang with RM87.4 million, DoSM said. On Ramadan bazaars, DoSM said that Selangor registered the highest sales value of RM451.4 million, followed by Johor at RM313.5 million and Kuala Lumpur at RM264.3 million.
Petaling recorded the highest sales value at the district level, at RM186 million, ahead of Johor Baru at RM148.3 million and Ulu Langat at RM64.3 million. As for the Aidilfitri bazaars, DoSM said Selangor came in first with RM112.7 million in sales, followed by Johor with RM97.5 million and Melaka with RM47.4 million.
Johor Baru had the highest sales value at the district level with RM59.3 million, followed by Klang with RM53.6 million and Melaka Tengah with RM43.5 million. Meanwhile, DoSM said that the number of workers increased by 30.3% to 203,667, up from 156,364 people last year.
Selangor recorded the highest number of workers at 6,105, followed by Johor at 5,258 and Kedah at 2,850.
DoSM said the findings were based on a survey conducted from March 23 to April 22, covering all bazaars registered with local authorities.
