ASEAN Cooperation Crucial for Regional Peace and Security, Says Malaysian Minister
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 22 (NNN-BERNAMA): Strengthening cross-border cooperation among Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states is essential for ensuring regional peace and security, Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted yesterday.
Delivering the keynote address at the Asia International Security Summit and Expo 2025 (AISSE 2025), Saifuddin underscored the importance of addressing both existing and emerging security threats, particularly transnational crimes.
“National cooperation and trust-building among ASEAN partners must advance to a higher level,” Saifuddin said. “ASEAN must remain cohesive, responsive, and relevant in tackling peace and security challenges while playing a central role in shaping the region’s evolving architecture.”
He stressed the urgency of a united effort to ensure ASEAN remains a region that is safe, free, and independent of security threats such as extremism and terrorism.
The AISSE 2025 event, hosted by the Malaysian Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysia Police, aims to foster international collaboration by bridging borders through shared intelligence, joint training initiatives, and innovative strategies to combat transnational security challenges.
This summit reinforces ASEAN’s commitment to collective security, focusing on strengthening partnerships to safeguard regional stability.
