DHAKA: Bangladesh’s first locally made COVID-19 vaccine received approval to conduct tests on humans.
Bangavax, a vaccine developed by local pharmaceutical company Globe Biotech got approval from the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) on Tuesday, Xinhua reported .
“We got permission from the BMRC to do the testing on 64 healthy adult participants,” said Globe Biotech senior official Mohammad Mohiuddin.
He said the BMRC had also informed that the company would be given permission for the vaccine to be widely used if phase two and phase three tests showed safety and effectiveness.
Globe Biotech applied for approval to run tests on humans on Nov. 1 and tests on monkeys found the vaccine produced “encouraging results”.
The vaccine is reported to be able to be stored at a temperature of four degrees Celsius for a month and -20 degrees Celsius for up to six months.
