Ceremony of E-Mobility Cooperation on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary Diplomatic Relations between Korea and Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia – On the occasion of celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) strengthened their cooperation to support the E-Mobility program in Indonesia.

Taking place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H.E. Cecep Herawan and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia H.E. Lee Sang-deok, conducted a handover ceremony of electric vehicles of Hyundai Genesis G80 LWB and Hyundai IONIQ 5 Signature LR, witnessed by the President of Hyundai Motor ASEAN, Mr. Lee Youngtack and KOICA Country Director Mr. Jeong Yun Gil (30/08).​

The initiative of the Government of ROK is an effort to support environmental sustainability and promote the electric vehicle industry ecosystem in Indonesia. As mentioned by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this cooperation is an implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 7 of the year 2022 on the Use of Battery Electric Vehicle for Operational use of Central and Regional Governments.

” Indonesia appreciates South Korea’s generous cooperation in boosting the Ministry’s efforts to contribute towards energy transition and a cleaner Jakarta. This also reflects on common efforts to strengthen partnerships in the development of an electric vehicle industry ecosystem in Indonesia. The delivery of electric vehicles symbolizes the close relations between the Indonesian and South Korean peoples, as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Bilateral Diplomatic Relations”, said the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after signing the handover of the EV.

A similar note has also been stated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia, “This initiative is a testament to the enduring friendship between Indonesia and Korea. It demonstrates our shared commitment to addressing the global challenge of climate change and fostering sustainable development.”

In addition, the Director of KOICA Indonesia, Jeong Yun Gil also stated, ” As we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, this initiative signifies our joint commitment to a greener future and our determination to contribute positively to the global climate agenda”.​

This activity is a manifestation of the integral role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in strengthening the friendship between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea. The handover ceremony reflects a milestone of cooperation to build green infrastructure that is constructive, concrete, and collaborative between the two countries.
