Cunard’s Queen Anne Makes Historic North American Debut in New York

New York, January 20, 2025 – Cunard’s much-anticipated new ship, Queen Anne, made its North American debut today, arriving in New York after its maiden voyage from Southampton, England. This marks the company’s first new ship in 14 years, and Queen Anne is set to offer a luxurious experience with 14 decks, 15 dining venues, and accommodations for up to 3,000 guests.

For the first time in Cunard’s 185-year history, the company is led by two female pioneers: Captain Inger Klein Thorhauge, one of the few female captains in the maritime industry, commands Queen Anne, while Katie McAlister, Cunard’s president, charts the company’s future in luxury cruising.

Creative director Adam Tihany oversaw the design of the ship, which blends Cunard’s iconic art-deco heritage with contemporary elegance. A highlight of the ship is its exclusive art collection, featuring 4,300 pieces from both emerging and established global artists, each offering a unique take on Cunard’s legacy.

The Queen Anne promises elevated entertainment experiences, including the “Bright Lights Society,” a cabaret-style venue, and an enhanced wellness offering with the new Pavilion Wellness Café. Guests can indulge in plant-based cuisine alongside sustainably sourced meats, and enjoy the Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea program for personalized wellness journeys at sea.

Queen Anne marks the beginning of her 107-day inaugural World Voyage, continuing Cunard’s tradition as the pioneer of world cruises since 1922. The ship’s maiden voyage underscores Cunard’s long-standing commitment to fostering international connections, cultural exchange, and enriching experiences.

Cunard’s relationship with New York dates back to 1847, longer than any other cruise line, with the company playing a significant role in the city’s immigration history. Cunard ships, including Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, have been iconic symbols of the golden age of ocean travel.

Katie McAlister expressed her enthusiasm for the debut, saying, “Queen Anne represents the pinnacle of Cunard’s innovation and hospitality, and her arrival in New York marks a historic milestone for us. As we celebrate nearly two centuries of maritime excellence, Queen Anne takes Cunard into a new era of luxury cruising, continuing our tradition of connecting people and cultures globally.”

Cunard’s presence in New York is a key part of the local cruise industry, contributing to the city’s record-high 1.5 million cruise passengers and generating a $500 million economic impact.
