Foreign Ministry Urges Malaysians in South Sudan to Leave Immediately Amid Escalating Conflict

KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all Malaysians in South Sudan to prioritise their safety and make preparations to leave the country immediately.

In a statement issued today, the ministry – also known as Wisma Putra – said the security risks in South Sudan are rising and continue to deteriorate due to ongoing conflict.

“Given the increasing risks and the likelihood of further deterioration in the security situation, the Ministry urges all Malaysians in South Sudan to prioritise their safety and prepare to leave the country immediately, while commercial flights are still operating,” the statement read.

The ministry added that the High Commission Office is in continuous contact with Malaysian citizens and is also coordinating closely with United Nations (UN) authorities to ensure the safety of 18 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel currently serving under the United Nations Police (UNPOL).

“All of them are safe,” it said.

The Malaysian High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya, is actively monitoring the security situation in South Sudan following recent developments that have affected the safety conditions in the country.

“The Ministry also advises all Malaysians to refrain from travelling to South Sudan,” it added.

Wisma Putra reaffirmed that the government prioritises the safety and well-being of Malaysians abroad and will continue to closely monitor the situation, providing updates if necessary.
