KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) expressed its support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to become the 10th Prime Minister thus forming a federal government between four alliances including Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
The matter was announced by GPS Chairman who is also the Premier of Sarawak Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at a press conference at around 6.00 pm at the UN Headquarters near here on Sunday.
“The Prime Minister will be decided by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who gets the majority. GPS supports Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said.
At the same time, Abang Jo confirmed that his meeting with Muhyiddin and PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on Sunday morning was not accompanied by GRS representatives and he did not know who GRS supported to become Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, he also confirmed that Pakatan Harapan Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also contacted him.
“Everybody wants to see me, I’ll tell you the truth.
“I didn’t meet anyone this morning, whether I met him or not is another matter, but Anwar did send a message, it’s normal for beautiful women to be like that,” he said.
The combination between PN, BN, GPS and GRS makes a total of 131 seats and is able to form a federal government in line with the provisions of the Malaysian Constitution.
“The world and our country will face the challenge of the economic crisis now and the situation is expected to become more critical in the next year.
“In order to ensure the well-being of the people is guaranteed and the economy of our country is preserved, a stable and strong government must be formed as soon as possible,” he added.
