Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the Telangana government’s initiative to introduce a dedicated health tourism policy, positioning Hyderabad as a premier hub for medical care. The announcement came during a felicitation ceremony for AIG Hospitals Chairman D. Nageshwar Reddy, who was recently awarded the Padma Vibhushan. This strategic step is set to enhance Hyderabad’s status as a top destination for advanced healthcare services.
Telangana’s significant contribution to pharmaceutical production was emphasized, with the state responsible for manufacturing one-third of India’s bulk drugs. Acknowledging past healthcare initiatives, the efforts of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in launching the Aarogyasri scheme were recognized. The Congress government’s recent decision to expand the scheme’s coverage from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per person after assuming power in Telangana was also highlighted.
Discussing the evolving landscape of healthcare, the Chief Minister pointed out that the traditional “family doctor” concept has diminished over time due to growing medical specialization. In an effort to enhance healthcare management, plans have been set in motion to implement digital health cards for all Telangana residents. Designed with strict adherence to data privacy regulations, these digital records will allow individuals to securely store and access their medical history, streamlining healthcare services across the state.
