Kennametal is expanding its mining portfolio with three new product lines
New cutting tools bring new possibilities in the fight against wear
PITTSBURGH , Sept. 24, 2024 / — Kennametal Inc. today announced the expansion of its comprehensive product line of anti-wear tools and solutions for mining operations. Among the new additions are both milling bits capable of meeting a variety of customer needs and an innovative circular steel drill rod system designed to increase efficiency and safety.
The PrimePoint™ range uses polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tips to allow mining operators to work longer in directional wall mining. The increased hardness of the PCD tip compared to traditional tungsten carbide significantly reduces its abrasive wear, thus extending the service life.
For completely different tasks, there’s the PlusPoint™ range of extra-durable material, which has been developed to penetrate even the hardest rock in situations where the rammer operator unexpectedly encounters adverse geological conditions, minimizing downtime and reducing tool wear.
Weak bolted ceiling reinforcement threatens not only work productivity, but also worker safety. The Defender™Round Drill Steel System was introduced as a response to the challenges miners face when combining poor ceiling geology with the presence of water. This new system, which maintains a lower noise level and less dust when compared to hexagonal stackable drill steel, further features:
A stronger round bar that, unlike rammed studs, is stackable and repairable.
Self-leveling, hands-free clamping sleeve and drive mechanism.
Slotted drive adapters that transfer the rotation to the internal hex of the steel parts, allowing the machine to drill larger and longer holes faster.
“Our team of wear experts listens carefully to the problems that plague our customers – and our materials and industry experts develop proven solutions for them,” says Marcelo Campos , vice president of Global Earth Cutting Tools. “These innovations are the latest result of their joint effort,” he adds.
