LG Energy Solution Ranks 12th in Global Sustainability, Leads Among Battery Makers

January 23, 2025 | SEOUL, South Korea / LG Energy Solution (LGES) has been named the 12th most sustainable company in the world on the 2025 Corporate Knights Global 100 list. This marks the company’s first inclusion on the prestigious ranking, where it also secured the top position among battery manufacturers.

The Global 100, a leading sustainability index by Corporate Knights, evaluates corporations with over $1 billion in annual revenue. The 2025 list assessed 8,359 companies on 25 performance indicators, including sustainable revenue, investment, resource and employee management, and supplier performance. LGES earned top scores in sustainable revenue and investment, reflecting its commitment to providing clean energy solutions and its strategic focus on future growth engines.

Industry Leadership and ESG Commitment
LGES’s exceptional performance in energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) productivity further solidified its ranking. These achievements highlight the company’s role as an industry leader in advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.

Since 2019, LGES has implemented Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to measure and transparently communicate the environmental impacts of its products. By 2024, 83% of its battery cell capacity underwent LCA, with 60% achieving Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. This proactive approach aligns with emerging global regulations, including mandatory carbon footprint disclosures and battery passports.

In addition to environmental goals, LGES has strengthened its social impact measures, introducing due diligence processes to identify and address potential human rights concerns. The company has also enhanced its ESG governance to meet evolving challenges and foster a culture driven by sustainability.

A Sustainable Supply Chain
Beyond its internal operations, LGES is expanding sustainability efforts across its supply chain. In 2024, the company introduced an IT system to improve traceability and transparency among Tier-N suppliers, emphasizing the core raw material supply chains critical for regulatory compliance. LGES’s recently published Supply Chain Sustainability Report outlines its strategies, systems, and achievements in managing ESG risks.

Looking Ahead
David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution, expressed pride in the recognition, saying, “We are honored that Corporate Knights has acknowledged our sustainability leadership. LG Energy Solution is committed to spearheading the future of green energy innovation and fostering a sustainable battery ecosystem.”

Corporate Knights CEO Toby Heaps praised LGES, stating, “As one of the world’s largest battery manufacturers, LG Energy Solution plays a central role in driving the transition to a net-zero economy. Its inclusion in the 2025 Global 100 underscores its global leadership.”

LGES continues to position itself as a pioneer in clean energy solutions, paving the way for a more sustainable future in the battery industry.
