Lyia Meta is the first singer from Malaysia to be nominated for a Grammy Award.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian singer Lyia Meta is becoming more popular around the world. Her singing album has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

The singer got a nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album for the song “Delta Shine,” which features Latin-American musician Antonio Vergara.

For Meta, this nomination is not just a personal win; it shows that Malaysian artists can compete and do well globally.

For an independent artist, being included in a Grammy-nominated album is more than just receiving an award.

“Not having help from a big company shows how committed someone is to make something important, like turning straw into gold despite all the distractions,” said Meta.

The nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards were announced last Friday. Meta is hoping to get support at the big music event in Los Angeles on February 2.

Meta is the first singer from Malaysia to be nominated for a Grammy, but Malaysian composer Zuraini Khalid Zonneveld has already won a Grammy for a blues album.

Zuraini, who is from the US, helped write the song “One Friend” with American blues singer Keb’ Mo. This song is on the album “Keep It Simple,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2005.

Another notable Malaysian-American is Phil Tan, an audio engineer and mixer who has won the Grammy Award three times and has been nominated 14 times.

Meta’s dream of being nominated for a Grammy started when Vergara asked her to work together on “The Fury. ”

Vergara, famous for his heartfelt music, is searching for a new singer to bring a fresh feel to his album.

Meta’s special way of speaking makes her a great fit for this project.

Meta said that when she got the invite from Antonio to join the blues album, she saw it as a chance to try a new way to express herself.

“I never thought I would be involved in something like this. ” I’m proud to work with such skilled musicians and to be recognized by the industry like this.

“It shows that as an independent artist, you can still achieve your dreams without full support from the industry. With hard work, creativity, and good relationships, you can make a big impact worldwide,” she said.

Meta is still working closely on her music project with her American friend, Denise Dimin.

“Denise motivates me to keep going and encourages me to work with others to grow my art. ”

This resulted in projects such as Descendents, which has songs in 79 languages, and my album, Next, with Denise, in the Traditional Pop Vocal Album category.

“She said that both of those albums are also on the new Grammy nomination list. ”
