Malaysia-Saudi Arabia agree to organize a fashion show in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: The governments of Malaysia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to host the Malaysia-Saudi Arabia Fashion Show in Kuala Lumpur which will focus on promoting the uniqueness of the textile art of both countries.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in a statement today, informed that the matter was reached through a bilateral meeting between its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture Prince Badr Abdullah.

“In addition, among the matters discussed included cultural cooperation, especially in the field of museums between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia next year,” according to the statement.

Nancy has represented the Malaysian government to the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policy and Sustainable Development (MONDIACULT 2022) held in Mexico City, Mexico on Sept 28 to 30.

MOTAC in the same statement informed that Nancy delivered a national statement on the theme of ‘Renewed and Strengthened Cultural Policies’ in the conference.

Through the national statement, he has shared the national initiative in developing the National Cultural Policy (DAKEN) as a reference source to form a cultured Malaysian society towards becoming a developed country.

“He also expressed Malaysia’s planning in the direction of the cultural sector through digitization transformation and specific investments focused on preservation, conservation and the development of the arts, culture and creative industries,” according to the statement.

As a representative of Malaysia who is a member of the Intergovernmental Committee to Protect the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2022-2026 session, Nancy also held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Culture of Guatamala Mario Roberto Maldonado Samayoa.

Among the things shared in the meeting was the experience regarding the nomination of Intangible Cultural Heritage (WTK) under UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
